Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a speech writer. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. It hosts video clips with commentary that analyze the depictions of women in the media and popular culture of today. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource to educate women about their roles in pop culture narratives It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. She also serves as the executive director. In addition, she works to bring awareness to the targeted and sexist attacks on women, as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking the stereotypes associated with popular culture. Sarkeesian who has the degree of Master's in the field of Social and Political thought from York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. At a young age, Sarkeesian was fascinated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. Someone who hoped to start a web-series examining the representation of gender in video games, she was targeted by an online campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. It actually increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. Numerous awards have been given to her in recognition of all of the contribution she has made. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization that explores the representations of women within pop media stories.
